Details and Where To Buy the Best Cornhole Bags Resin Pellets

I have been getting a lot of questions from visitors about PERFECT BAG specifications for those that want to make their own.   This post will give you all that you need to know.


1)   The resin that you use needs to weight between 6.2 and 6.8 oz. per cup.    So, as you know, a cup holds 8 oz. of water.   The weight of the resin in that measuring cup needs to weigh less than water, but not below 6.2 oz once the measuring cup is full.   Why?   Well, when you go to fill your bag with a lighter resin, persay 5 oz. per cup, you bag will need more resin and in turn it will be TOO PLUMP.  If you use too heavy of a resin then your bag will be too thin and droopy (though I know a few players that like really thin bags, in this case a heavier resin is ok).   Most sellers of resin will tell you that the resin they have weights x amount of ounces per cup.   Just do the math, if they haven't already, and make sure it is between 6.2 and 6.8 oz. per cup (BE SURE TO TARE THE CUP SO AS NOT TO INCLUDE ITS WEIGHT), with 6.5 oz. per cup being PERFECT.  --------------   0.7 ounces or so will be made up by the material, so 2 1/3 to 2 1/2 cups of resin + the material will put you in that 15 to 16 ounce range.  As long as the bags is between 14 and 16 ounces when sewn you are within specification.   NOTE:  Don't buy sharp edge or cylindrical resin.  It will make your bag feel crunchy, which sucks.   You want to try for rounded edge resin for a nice feeling bag.

COST: 2017 resin rates should run you between $2.25 and $2.75 per lb. shipped when you buy up to 8 lbs. The savings comes in when you buy 16 to 50 lbs. Then you can get it for around $1.85 to $2.25 per lb. shipped.

2)  If you use 6.0 oz/cup resin, then you will use 2 1/2 cup of the resin to fill your 100% duck cloth bag.  

3)  Your duck cloth should be cut 7 1/2" x 15" before sewing.   Your duck cloth along with thread will weigh between 0.7 and 0.8 oz.    Fold it in half and you will sew the 1/2" zone all the way around, leaving a small opening on the 4th side for the resin fill to go into after you flip it inside out.   Here is a link about sewing the best bags. Anything that I say here in this post about resin fill specifications trumps anything that is in that posting. There might be minor variations, but wanted to state that.

4)  Once your bag is filled and closed and patted flat, it will measure 1 1/4" to 1 1/2", with 1 3/8" being nominal.   If your bag is over 1 1/2" thick, then it is too plump and you either used a too small piece of duck cloth, you sewed outside of the 1/2" zone perimeter or you used a resin fill that is less than 6.0 oz/cup and put too much resin in it to get it up to the right weight (14-16 ounces).

To clarify, the terms "Resin" and "Poly Pellets" are universal terms and one in the same in the cornhole industry. Outside of the cornhole industry, the word "Resin" can mean other compositions of the material.

The colors of the resin (poly pellets) can vary. Once sewn inside the bag, the color of the resin (poly) is irrelevant.
