You need to go to the construction side of this forum. Here's a quick link to the painting of the golf balls question: tossinggames.proboards.com/thread/51/painting-golf-balls-questionAs for the rope, use 3/16" to 3/8" nylon rope. Make it somewhere between 11" to 18" in between the balls. The patented Ladder Golf Game uses 11" long, 1/4" wide nylon rope between their golf balls, which makes it more challenging, but cancels the chances of getting a double ringer. To each their own.

I drill the holes all the way through the golf balls 1/4" and string them with fishing line with a nail that fits through the hole. Spry them with Krylon Fusin Spray Paint. (made for plastic)

My family uses cheap dollar tree paint and we drill the hope and put them on the rope, then we paint them. Paint will scuff but you didnt pay a lot of money for it.
