What is Throquet®?
The first new lawn game in years!
What is the basic idea of Throquet®?
For an individual player or team to be the first competitor to progress through a “course” by tossing or throwing a ring over a series of target cones in the specified order. You can think of it as a cross between Disk Golf and Croquet.
Who is Throquet® suited for?
Throquet® has a low skill requirement and is appropriate for players of almost any age. Since it does have some rules, a minimum age of six seems logical. Throquet® is particularly well-suited, however, for large groups of boisterous adults playing as teams in a convivial atmosphere. Its modest pace provides exceptional opportunity for socializing and in-game refreshment breaks.
Why do we need another lawn game?
There are only a handful of widely played lawn games commonly available for sale in the US today: badminton, horseshoes, croquet, corn hole, and ladder golf. Variations on bocce popup here and there, but certainly do not enjoy top tier status. Lawn games are played by relatively unskilled participants on a temporary site, typically in a relaxed, social setting.
Each of the top tier games has modest-to-severe drawbacks. All but croquet have significant participation limitations: only four to six people can play at one time. Croquet and badminton both require relatively large, flat playing areas. Horseshoes tear up existing grass, or else require a permanent set of “pits” dedicated to the game. All except croquet require score-keeping, sometimes a challenge.
Where can Throquet® be played?
Every Throquet® course is custom-designed at game time to take best advantage of the area available for play - yard, park, beach, anywhere. Like croquet, Throquet® is a “first-to-finish” activity, and is not timed. Its very nature encourages dawdling and distraction. It is perfect for picnics, tail-gate parties, and other relaxed occasions. Throquet® does not require a flat pitch or marked boundaries; and there is not a rigidly specified number or placement for the targets. The sturdy rings and cones come in a handy carry-bag along with a permanent, laminated set of playing instructions.
